Polybutylene terephathalate (PBT) is a crystalline thermoplastic engineering plastic made by polymerizing dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and 1,4 butanediol (1,4-Butanediol). Due to the growth of the -CH2- chain of PBT resin, the molecular chain is easy to flex, so the glass transfer temperature is lower than PET, and the crystallization speed increases.
PBT can also be called thermoplastic polyester plastics, applicable to different processing industries, generally more or less will add additives, or blended with other plastics, with different proportions of additives, can be manufactured with different specifications of the product. As PBT has heat resistance, weather resistance, chemical resistance, good electrical properties, low water absorption, good gloss, widely used in electronic and electrical appliances, automotive parts, machinery, housewares, etc., and PBT products and PPE, PC, POM, PA, etc., known as the five major general-purpose engineering plastics.

Connectors
Connector is a bridge between signals, is the transmission of electronic signals and power supply connection indispensable components, PBT balanced physical properties and price is in line with the needs of the connector. PBT is usually added 30% of the glass fiber blended as a connector, PBT because of the mechanical properties, solvent resistance, molding and processing of the good and low price and is widely used. PBT because of the poor resistance of the heat of the welding knob problem, so that it can not be used in the SMT-type connector. PBT can not be used in SMT type connectors due to the poor heat resistance of the solder.
Cooling Fans
The second major use of PBT is in cooling fans, cooling fans are placed in machines that rotate for long periods of time to help dissipate heat, the physical requirements of the plastic are heat-resistant, flame-retardant, insulating and mechanical strength, PBT is usually used in the form of a 30% fiber-added as the outer frame of the cooling fan and the fan blades.
Bobbin
The third use of PBT is as a transformer, relays within the bobbin, generally PBT with 30% fiber injection molding. The physical properties required for bobbins include insulation, heat resistance, solder resistance, fluidity, strength, etc. The applicable materials are phenolic resin, PBT, PA6, and PET.
Phenolic resin properties are good, but its molding is not as good as PBT, so the size of small, complex shape of the product are used PBT resin, although PBT solder poor heat resistance, but its environmental awareness of Europe, the United States and Japan, there is an increase in the trend of using recyclable PBT.
Automobile Industry
The amount of PBT consumed in the automobile industry is about 2,200 metric tons, half of which is formed with PC to form PBT/PC alloy, which can be used as automobile bumper. In addition, PBT is also used for window motor housings, locomotive motor parts, and automotive transmission gear boxes.
Other uses of PBT, such as adding 15% glass fiber applications as the base of the power-saving bulb base and shell, PBT/PC alloy as the sole of ice skates, and others, such as relay housings, sockets, switches, tuner housings.
