(1) general plastics engineering

As these plastics have good electrical properties, high temperature resistance and dimensional stability and other characteristics, some also have very good flame retardant, radioactive, chemical resistance and excellent mechanical properties, so in the electronics and electrical appliances, automotive, aviation, instrumentation, petrochemicals, and rockets, astronautics and other cutting-edge technology areas with increasingly important applications, the market price is generally several times that of the ordinary engineering plastics.
After the modification of special engineering plastics, it can not only maintain its original high performance, but also reduce the price, which is widely used in civilian products.
(4) Nanocomposite technology in the modification industry
The manufacture and application of polymer nanocomposites is an important topic for the future. Nowadays, the development of nanotechnology is changing day by day, and the research and development of nano-polymer materials, as an important branch of it, is showing a new trend. The potential benefits of nanotechnology drive scientists in many countries to explore and research, and the competition is fierce.
For nano-polymer materials, it is difficult to obtain nano-structured composites with the usual blending methods in the preparation of nano-powder modified polymer composites due to the small particle size, large surface area, and easy agglomeration of the nano-powder. In order to increase the interfacial bonding between nano-additives and polymers and to improve the homogeneous dispersion of nanoparticles, surface modification of nanopowder is required.
The main purpose is to reduce the surface energy state of the particles, eliminate the surface charge of the particles, improve the affinity of the nanoparticles with the organic phase, and weaken the surface polarity of the nanoparticles.
(5) Stricter environmental requirements for modified plastics
With the increasing global environmental awareness, consumers are demanding more and more flame retardants for plastic products, and environmentally friendly flame retardants with no halogen, low smoke and low toxicity have been more and more widely used. At present, nearly 80% of the modified flame retardants for plastics in China are halogenated flame retardants.
Halogenated flame retardants are mainly composed of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), and 70% to 80% of such flame retardants are used in electronic and electrical products exported from China. Bromine, antimony flame retardant system in the thermal cracking and combustion will generate a lot of smoke and corrosive gases. In recent years, some European countries believe that bromine flame retardants will produce toxic carcinogenic substances when burning.
In February 2003, the European Union introduced ROHS and WEEE two environmental protection ban, in addition to restricting halogen compounds, but also on silver, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium and other heavy metals to implement limited control.
(6) the development of high-performance resins and new high-efficiency additives to become an important direction of development of modified plastics

With the social and industrial requirements of modified plastics is getting higher and higher, the development of a number of high-performance reinforcing materials, such as carbon fibers, silicon carbide fibers, alumina fibers, boron fibers, aramid fibers, high-density polyethylene fibers, etc.; at the same time, a new type of high-performance special resins also came into being, such as the general epoxy resin is gradually being toughness is better, higher temperature-resistant toughened epoxy resins, bimatoprost resins and polyimide resins and so on to replace.
The development of new efficient additives is also an important development direction of modified plastics. Modified plastics involved in additives in addition to plastics processing commonly used additives such as heat stabilizers, antioxidants, ultraviolet absorbers, nucleating agents, antistatic agents, dispersants and flame retardants, etc., toughening agents, flame retardant synergists, alloy compatibilizers (interfacial compatibilizers), etc., modified plastics is also very critical.
In recent years, although the additives used in modified plastics have made great progress and development, a variety of new additives, but due to the high price, and there is still a certain distance from the actual needs, thus affecting the popularization of its use. The future development direction of additives for modified plastics, in addition to the development of new varieties, it is more important to reduce costs.
In addition, it should be developed in the direction of multifunctionality, both coupling effect should also have dispersibility, gloss, lubricity and other functions.
